Tools of the Trade: A MUA’s Favorite Photoshoot Products

Know one knows faces better than a professional makeup artist. And ours are not only the best in their field, they study products to make sure they are bringing the most effective and beautiful options to set. I recently asked TRIS Studio makeup artist Nancy Boegler which products she would never go without:

From Nancy:

My favorite primer that I use quite often on myself, and my clients, is the Japonesque Velvet Touch Primer. (Unfortunately it’s no longer available on their site, but if you dig you can find it elsewhere.) It gives your skin a smooth palette prior to applying foundation and it is not greasy like many silicone primers. It will even out your skin to give you a more flawless finish and will not clog your pores. This is a professional product I always have with me on set for shoot days.

Hands-down my favorite makeup remover is Dermalogica’s PreCleanse Cleansing Oil. Just apply it to dry skin, massage in, then add water to turn it into a lather that easily removes everything from mascara to red lipstick. It’s fantastic for your lashes and skin because it’s an oil that dissolves makeup, not a cleanser with surfactants that can strip the lipids on your skin. I love it as the first step in a double cleansing routine. It’s simply the best makeup remover I have ever come across.
